Details

This trip will be geared towards beginner snowshoers and those who wish to obtain introductory instruction on snowhoeing basics. Preference will be given to beginners, after which others will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

We will meet at the Pringles parking lot on the NW corner of Drake and Taft Hill in Fort Collins by 05:45 and spend ~15 minutes covering introductions and a snowshoe equipment use overview. At 06:00, we will depart. Ride share will be $15 to cover the cost of transport and the day use fee at the trailhead.

Starting at Hwy 14 west of Cameron Pass, snowshoe up NF-170 road to summer parking area, then follow trail to Lake Agnes. After reaching the cabin, the trail ascends rather steeply to Lake Agnes. If participants do not wish to continue the entire way to Lake Agnes, we will return to the trailhead. However, we will travel on snowshoes for some distance in order to familiarize participants with ascending and descending steeper terrain on snowshoes. One way distance and elevation gain to Lake Agnes is approximately 2.5 miles with 1,000' gain. If parking is not available at the trailhead, we may utilize Blue Lake trail as an alternate location.

Participants should carry their 10 essentials in addition to bringing waterproof hiking/winter boots, gaiters, hiking or ski poles, and snowshoes.

For those who do not own a pair of snowshoes, they can be rented at Jax on North College in Fort Collins. If you need advice on what kind of snowshoes to rent, please communicate with leader prior to trip. Details for snowshoe rentals at Jax can be located here: https://www.jaxmercantile.com/pages/rentals.html
