Ascend through a dry lodgepole pine forest on a broad pack trail near Scott Gomer Creek.  Climb east up a steeper, narrower trail through mixed fir, spruce, and bristlecone.  Cross the Rosalie Trail, then turn off the trail slightly left to Helms Lake, enjoy the view, have lunch, then return the way we came.

This may be an ambitious distance, depending on the weather and whether we have to break trail.  But, good to have a goal.

In addition to the 10 essentials, brings snowshoes and traction devices, gaiters, layers, and a headlamp with extra batteries.
