Details

We are trying this again!

We will be snowshoeing on the Forest Lakes Trail in the James Peak Wilderness Area.  Our pace will be casual.  The trip is a continuous incline up 1000 feet.  The trail is initially an old road that traverses a steep slope, climbing 300 feet in .75 mile. We will then climb 200 feet and cross Arapaho Creek.  We will have some views of the riparian valley as we climb through the thick trees.  The road ends as the trails swings NE and rolls more gradually uphill through a mixed forest.  We will eat lunch where the trail breaks from the trees and we have a view of the high mountain ridgeline at about 10,400 feet. elevation.  We scouted this area and determined that we should use snowshoes.  Please bring poles, baskets and snowshoes.

Please be sure to read your Tuesday email with updated weather conditions. If you have not received an email by

6:00 PM, please contact Kathy.  720.425.0458

Because this is a wilderness area, our hike is limited to 12 people.

Please remember to bring sunscreen, plenty of water, lunch, extra clothing and your 10 essentials.

A sit pad for sitting in the snow and a warm drink always satisfies.

Please notify the leaders if you have any medical issues before the snowshoe.
