Details

This trail is a wide groomed road at a 6.3% grade that services the Keystone Ski Area, specifically the Ruby and Santiago ski lifts with toilets and a take-out mini-restaurant.  There are lots of tables and chairs outside and that is where we will have our packed lunch. Or your lunch may be purchased here.  The trail is continually upward, with some level spots, but easy skiing. The way down gives one some glide speed (but never too fast for control) and places where we will exercise our legs. A perfect combination.  The road goes up a beautiful valley next to a stream and is sunny for most of the way.  Count on 1.75 - 2 hours up and about 45 - 50 minutes down. With a 1/2 hour or so for lunch, the round trip will take us about 3 1/2+ hours.

Climbing skins are not needed but depending on snow conditions the last 200 yards at the top is steeper and shaded and you may need to herringbone (crab) a short distance. Let me know if your ski bottoms use wax rather than have fishscales.
