Ypsilon Mountain is a hidden gem in the Mummy Range of RMNP. We will summit Mount Chaquita (13,069')  on the way to Ypsilon (13,514') and also have the option to summit Chapin (12,454') on the way back to the cars if the group if feeling up to it. Chapin will add approximately 0.2 mi and 400' elevation gain. Mt Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon form the CCY Trifecta.

The route is Class 2 with Talus and loose rock once we approach Mount Chaquita. The hiking is non-technical. As most of the hike is above treeline, be prepared for sun exposure and wind.

Views are exceptional throughout, with western panoramas that extend from the Never Summer Range to the Medicine Bow peaks in Wyoming. Views north and east include the Desolation Peaks, Longs Peak complex and aptly named Spectacle Lakes.

More information:

Sorry, no dogs allowed in RMNP.

This trip is a Trailblazers trip but will be opened up to all CMC if spots have not been filled.

This trip is subject to change based on weather and conditions. More details will be coordinated by the trip leader closer to the date. This is a Class C hike with the majority of the day spent above treeline.

Plan to depart Boulder 5:00am on Saturday, Septmeber 8. The drive time is 2 hours (mostly because of the 2WD dirt road - Old Fall RIver Road). Planning on leaving the TH at 7:00am and returning to the TH around 2:00pm. Return to Boulder around 4:00 - 5:00pm (maybe later, pending RMNP traffic). There is minimal trailhead parking so we will carpool as much as possible.

Slots to attend will be first come, first serve. To register, contact the trip leader, Kahle (, and co-leader, Trey ( and provide:

  • Breif summary of your hiking abilities
  •  Prefer to drive or carpool?

Leaders-In-Training also welcome!

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
