To register contact Scott Farquhar,

We will start from the East Portal Trailhead and follow Wind River Trail. After a bit we will cross the creek to start our off-trail jouney. From here we will follow above a drainage that flows from the saddle between Thunder and Lightning. After clearing steeper cliffs we will make our way to Thunder's northwest ridge and follow it all the way to Thunder. After summiting Thunder we will decend to the saddle between Thunder and Lightning then climb up to the south traversing up below the ridge that leads to the summit of Lightning. Comming down we will retrace our steps to the saddle then follow above the drainage down to the creek, cross the creek and return to the trailhead on the Wind River Trail.

Although this is only a 6 mile trip, it is mostly off trail AND has 3000 ft elevation gain so don't be fooled by the short distance, it will be a challenge. I have done this trip, but it was in 2012 and things may have changed a bit, so expect an off-trail adventure (not a rose garden). Would you expect any less from me :-)

If the area recieves snow then I will require everyone to carry snowshoes just in case the snow is deep in the woods (note it is quite often much deeper in the woods than on trail or in the open).
