Guardians of the Flat Irons: Green Mountain, Bear Peak, South Boulder Peak

12.2 miles, 5,171 feet total elevation gain over three peaks (up/down), Bobcat Pace: 2 miles/1,00 feet per hour

Our three peak traverse will begin at Gregory Canyon Trail head where we will soon start steep with a section of "stairs."  We will continue uphill on established trails through dense pine forest to the first summit: Green Mountain.  Use the pegs on the huge metal plaque to view surrounding peaks.

Next, we will travel over to Boulder Peak by heading down trail to Bear Canyon, then uphill to Bear Peak West Ridge.  Enjoy a quick and fun/easy scramble to the peak summit (helmet encouraged.) Here we have our best panoramic views: South--Pikes Peak, West--Indian Peaks, North--Longs peak and Fort Collins, East--Denver.

Then we head down to the saddle preceding our next summit, passing by Shadow Canyon Trail.  We then head up the trail passing through the burned area and onto some slabby rocks to South Boulder Peak.  We are at the highest point of our adventure here.

Here comes the big descent ... first backtracking back to the saddle and then down the steep Shadow Canyon trail through dense forest.  Once at the bottom, our paths open up as we begin a tour of the lower flat irons (about 5 miles left) through meadows and forest on the Mesa Trail back to the trail head.

Notes

The Bobcats provide a variety of challenging CMC trips each month — mostly hikes rated B-Difficult and C, and Difficult Snowshoes — for our mostly age-50+ constituents. We coordinate participating leaders, and then publish links to their trips as part of our monthly newsletter. Our trips are mostly on weekdays and mostly 12 participants or less. We sponsor any activity of interest to our members, everything from biking to camping. Although we have members, our trips are non-exclusive. We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcat trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
