Time to swing some ice!
This is the final module in the 2018-2019 BMS series. Completion of this course allows certification in the BMS Alpine Mountaineering track. Congratulations!
It is required that you've completed our BMS Wilderness Fundamentals class prior to taking this class. BMS Rock Climbing class or equivelant belay, knot typing, and rappel skills are also required. If you have not taken BMS Rock Climbing you must meet with the instructor before class to pass a belay/knot/rappel test, then you can register.
Classroom dates are 4 Feb and 7 Feb. The field session is 10 Feb. There will be an optional overnight trip to Ouray on 15-17 Feb. All field sessions are scheduled as CMC trips. The cost for this class is $70. The optional overnight trip will include additional hotel and travel expenses. To receive permission and the passcode, please contact Kristen Buckland at Buckie06@hotmail.com.
Because of permitting regulations, only 8 students total are allowed to attend the optional Ouray Field Trip. Priority will be given to the first 8 people who register for this class.
Regarding gear: Normal climbing gear is required (helmet, harness, ATC belay device, 3 locking biners, personal anchor system, prussik cord), Your boots MUST BE full shank or 3/4 shank mountaineering boots, typical hiking boots will not work for ice climbing. You will need clear safety glasses for eye protection. Contact Kristen Buckland with any questions or concerns.
Crampons and ice tools are available for your use. You are of course welcome to purchase these items before the class, but they can be quite expensive (especially the ice tools). It is recommended that you try the tools that the club and instructors bring to the field sessions to see what works best for you before making that kind of investment.
There is a $20 cancellation fee. No refund will be provided within 7 days of the class for any reason. Refunds will not be issued if you fail the belay test.
