Greetings RMOTHG Snowshoers:

We are offering a snowshoe hut trip to Vance's Cabin on Tuesday February 5th through Thursday February 7th (two nights). The cabin is located North of Leadville on Tennessee Pass by Cooper Ski Area. The trip leader is Carole Adler (caroleadler@yahoo.com) and the co-leader is Frank Burzynski.

***Note all trips are subject to change due to weather and/or trail conditions. The trip will still take place even if there are light snow conditions.***

Please read the information about the bottom of this e-mail regarding trips sign-up, cancelation, and other directions regarding RMOTHG activities.

The trip elevation begins at 10,424 feet and reaches 10,980 feet at the cabin. The distance to the cabin is 3.1 miles. There are no avalanche dangers in this area. We will enjoy beautiful views during the day and moon and star-gazing at night. There will be time to take a couple side trips since we are staying two nights. The map reference for this trip is Trails Illustrated 110 Leadville, Fairplay. You can read more about the cabins at http://www.huts.org/The_Huts/vances.php

Carole has reserved 14 beds in the two cabins. To sign-up, first go to CMC.org as detailed below. Reservations will on a first come, first-served basis. You need to sign a liability release form from the 10th Mountain Division online, which Carole will provide once you are a confirmed participant. Members will also be required to sign the CMC waiver form.

The cost is $72.00, which is not refundable. The leaders reserve the right to cancel the trip due to adverse weather conditions, however the registration fee is non-refundable.

Refunds are not available for participants who cancel their reservations. However, participants may find another member to take their slot (and seek reimbursement from their replacement - not from the CMC or leaders). Carole will have the names of members on the wait list to contact to fill canceled slots.

While the roads are good, we ask for volunteers with 4-wheel drive vehicles to drive in case there is a need for higher clearance on the roads.

Please bring both snowshoes and microSpikes. We will discuss at the trailhead whether to use snowshoes or microSpikes.

In addition to the 10 essentials, you will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillowcase, personal care items, small towel, and hut slippers. You will also need to bring three sack lunches and two breakfasts, which require water to prepare (and lunches that do not need to be cooked). You will receive information concerning the dinner menus after your sign-up for the trip and once cabin assignments have been made. At that time, we will ask each participant to contribute a dish for the two dinners (dessert, etc.). If you have special dietary needs, then you will have to bring your own dinners for this trip.

Here are the steps to follow to sign-up for this exciting hut trip:

1. Go to https://www.cmc.org/Calendar/EventDetails.aspx?ID=44448 to sign up for the trip and pay the $72.00 trip fee.

2. Watch for upcoming emails from the leaders.

3. The 10th Mountain Division Hut waiver form must be signed online. You will also be asked to sign the CMC waiver form if haven’t already done so.

4. Review the pack list as provided by the leaders.

5. The leaders will provide bed assignments.

6. The leaders will provide potluck dinner assignments.

Please call Carole at 303-204-0105 with questions about the trip and to notify her of any medical issues which may affect the trip.

Hope to see you on this trip as it is always a lot of fun!!&l
