From Sandbeach Lake Trailhead (8350') in Wild Basin, Rocky Mountain National Park, we will follow the Sandbeach Lake Trail about 3.2 miles to where it crosses Hunters Creek (9800').  For this first part, the snow is usually well packed down. We then go off-trail, and follow Hunters Creek as far as we want to go.  It is very unlikely that we get to Keplinger Lake (11,686'), but will hopefully make it to treeline, or a mile or two  past the trail.  Special care will be taken to find Lyric Falls (10,160'), which Lisa Foster* says is named for "the lyrical song of the water tumbling over rock slabs.." .  As our view opens up, we will see the massive hulks of Meeker, Chiefs Head, and Pagoda peaks.  Lisa describes Hunters Creek as "one of the most pristine and visually stunning drainages in the Rocky Mountains".  It will be even more stunning if everything is capped with fresh snow!

Notes

*This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents. We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping. Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive. We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership. To join our free mailing list, write Membership Services at office@cmc.org or call them at (303) 279-3080.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
