We will start at the less visited East Portal Trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park near the YMCA camp.

We will begin on the Wind RIver Trail, connect with the Glacier Creek Trail, looping past Glacier Gorge TH and Bear Lake. We will then continue on to the Bierstadt Lake Trail to Bierstadt Lake and descend back to Sprague Lake and our starting point.   This is a beautiful walk, much of it in the woods,  with outstanding viewpoints along the way perfect for snowshoeing.

If the snow conditions continue to be as fabulous as they have been in November, we may need to delete a portion of the loop to shorten it to approximately 10 miles.  Much of this hike is at an elevation of  9,000 ft and partially protected from winds.

Notes

This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents.  We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping.  Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive.  We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership. To join our free mailing list, write Membership Services at office@cmc.org

Participants must have microspikes and snowshoes and know how to attach them to their backpack if needed.  Pace will be steady due to the shorter days, expect to be on the trail for up to 8 or 9 hours.

Please have ALL 10 ESSENTIALS and be prepared for weather conditions.

I will email participants 2 days before the trip with extra information.  If you do not receive an email, you must contact me as I have occasionally had people say they did not receive one.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
