Details

John's backcountry theme for 2019 is to hike all 37 wilderness areas in Colorado. This trip intends to bag Mt Evans Wilderness Area as #2 for the year.

Hike or Snowshoe south along West Chicago Creek into Mt Evans Wilderness Area. The trail climbs for a mile to a bench above and west of the creek. The trail continues climbing less steeply thorugh lodgepole forest and into bristlecone pines. The trail ends at timberline in Hell's Hole, in an open meadow at the base of Grey Wolf Mountain. Mt Evans looms to the Southeast. About halfway to trail's end, Sugarload Peak perkily sits immediately to our west. Sugarloaf is a nice off-trail summer hike.

Do not expect to trek the entire length of the trail. Our turnaround point depends on snow pack, weather and hiker limitations.

Notes

Leader will email all roster two days before the trip with the latest weather forecast and last minute details. Bring cold weather gear, traction, snow shoes and lunch.

No tigers, please. We will stay together and set a pace for the slowest hiker, who will likely be our leader.
