Location

We will start at the Longs Peak trailhead and hike to the top of Estes Cone in RMNP.

The Estes Cone trail climbs steeply up to the Eugenia Mine Trail where you can see Estes Cone directly north of us.  At the Eugenia Mine sie we may find the remnants of an old homestead.  Here they hauled copper sulphide and gold ore our to the slopes of Batte Mountain.  Once we rech the Cone, the trail becomes quite stepp, gaining almost 800 feet in the last 2/3 mile.

 

Meet at the CoorsTEK lot adjacent (east) of the Colorado Mountain Club building in Golden at 6:30 am for a no later than 6:45 start. We will drie ro Boulder on Hwy 93, than Hwy 36 through Lyons to Hwy 7 to the Longs Peak trailhead.

Details

At this point I will assume this is a snowshoe hike, but we will assess snow and weather conditions as we get closer.



Plan on brining both micro spikes and snowshoes



Also bring your regular winter gear.




Notes

This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents.  We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping.  Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive.  We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership. To join our free mailing list, write Membership Services at office@cmc.org or call them at (303) 279-3080.
