Registrants should have already taken BMS Rock Climbing, or have the equivalent basic rock climbing skills.  Leading skills are not necessary.

Special Gear Requirements-

Students will receive the book Climbing Anchors (How To Climb Series) July 2, 2013 by John Long (Author), Bob Gaines (Author)

Students should own or purchase as much of the gear listed below as possible. Where the expense of any of the below is not feasible for the student, contact Collin or Scott to see whether arrangements can be made for loaner use during the Field Session.

Basic climbing kit- harness, helmet, shoes (approach are OK)

Belay/rappel device- preferably an autoblocking type such as BD Guide or Petzl Reverso, or an assisted-braking device like the GriGri.

Personal Anchor System (PAS) or 120 cm sewn nylon sling for tether/rappel extension

Rappel back-up sling- made from 5 or 6 mm diameter nylon cord tied into an 11-13 inch loop or a 13.5 inch HollowBlock sling

Gear for anchor construction-

Cordelette- 16-30 ft. of 7 mm diameter nylon cord (untied length)
