Stewart Green will present a program on the history of climbing in the Pikes Peak region that focuses on ascents of Pikes Peak in the 19th century and the development of rock climbing in the area, particularly at the Garden of the Gods, one of the first established climbing areas in the United States. The program will focus on local climbers, including Albert Ellingwood, Bob Ormes, Harvey Carter, Jimmie Dunn, and others, as well as on current climbing and stewardship issues at local climbing areas.

Stewart Green, a Colorado Springs native, began rock climbing in North Cheyenne Canon in 1963 as a 12-year-old kid and has subsequently climbed all over the world. He is also an adventure travel writer and photographer for Falcon Guides and Globe Pequot Press and has written over 40 books, including Rock Climbing Colorado, Rock Climbing Utah, Rock Climbing New England, Rock Climbing Europe, Best Climbs Rocky Mountain National Park, Best Climbs Moab, Scenic Driving Colorado, Scenic Routes & Byways California’s Pacific Coast, and many others. His newest book, released in September 2018, is Rock Art: The Meanings and Myths behind Ancient Ruins in the Southwest and Beyond
