The Ascending Hikes series is a program geared towards new members and individuals seeking to gradually increase their fitness and hiking difficulty, with the goal of reaching the summit of a Colorado 14er in July 2019.

We will meet at The Fort Restaurant (1st exit off of Hwy 285 west of the C470 highway) at 6:00 for leaving sharp at  6:15 start.  We drive over Kenosha Pass, taking a left on Lost Park Road for 19 miles.  This is a gravel road is washboardy and car speeds are 20-25 max.  Round trip mileage is 135 miles, meaning driver compensation will be about $10 per person for a 4-person carpool.

Bison Peak is a treat - if you look at photos online, you will know why all the descriptions are so glowing! Giant granite formations start at the saddle and accompany you all the way to the top.  We start from the Lost Creek Campground at 9,961' elevaton, following the Brookside McCurdy Trail to the saddle, then on up to the summit at 12,431'.

This hike is more goal oriented than social and if dark clouds become present we'll continue to monitor but not turn back.

Bring your 10 essentials.  I will send out weather 2 days before the trip and that will help us finetune our plans.

There will a POST HIKE Refreshment stop at Jefferson Market, that serves all sorts of drinks, food and highly rated fudge in the town of Jefferson, 1 mile south on Hwy 285 for those that wish.

The series will begin with a classification of Easy A hikes ( up to 8 miles round trip and/or 1200 ft. elevation gain) and progress to a classification of Difficult C hikes (up to 12 miles round trip and/or 2500 ft. elevation gain).  Hikes will occur on Tuesday and Saturday

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
