Details

Back by popular demand.  A classic Cameron Pass backcountry nordic ski (BCX) trip, mostly on a winter-only ungroomed track.

This will be a point-to-point trip with a short car shuttle.  We will leave a vehicle at the Meadows parking lot and start our ski at the Zimmerman Trailhead five miles up the road.

This will be a casually paced trip.  From the trailhead we will ski up ~600 feet to Zimmerman Lake area, and then descend the Meadows Trail to Long Draw Road ~1200 feet below Zimmerman Lake.  Despite the bland name, the Meadows Trail is rolling terrain through forested areas with short but fun downslopes. Total net elevation gain for this trip is ~800 feet and total net elevation loss is ~1400 feet.

Recommended gear: wider skis (>80 cm in the shovel) with metal edges and backcountry bindings (3-pin or nnn-BC) are recommeded unless you are comfortable climbing and descending both packed trail and powder through trees on moderate slopes with different gear.  Similarly, kicker skins are recommended in case the steeper portions of the track are icy.  If you want to join this trip with alternative gear, contact the trip leader.
