Details

Ice climbing routes in the Poudre Canyon are fairly elusive. The intended route is Poverty Gulch WI2-3. It is located on the south side of the Poudre River in the Big Narrows. To get to the ice formation, one has to cross the Poudre River. This can be the most adventuresome part of the climb and is best done when the ice is thick enough so that falling into the river is not an issue.

Because of the uncertainties in the conditions of the approach and the climb, the leader will preview the area just prior to the scheduled date. If conditions are found to be unfavorable, the session may be cancelled or rescheduled at the last minute. A longer warm period prior to the scheduled date may rule out the climb.

We will toprope the ice climb. Bring steel crampons, ice ax, helmet, climbing harness, locking carabiner, belay device. Bring ice tools, ice screws, carabiners, slings, etc. if you have them. Leader will bring a few ice tools to use.
