Do a 14er (equivalent) without leaving town! The Dixon Trail is a new (and long) trail to the top of Cheyenne Mountain. Starting and ending in Cheyenne Mountain State Park, the Dixon gains about 3500 feet of elevation. 17 miles out and back (and more if we want to explore a bit on top). We’ll start early to enjoy the sunrise and to avoid dancing with lightning bolts later. It’s March, so it could be muddy, maybe still snowy/icy on top and definitely breezy so pack appropriately. There are no water sources on this trail so bring plenty of liquids. This trip is primarily aimed at Pikes Peak and El Pueblo group members but others are welcome, too. The park has an $8-10 entry fee so bring a couple bucks to share that cost. We’ll meet at the Safeway on South Nevada for an (optional) carpool. If there is inclination after we’ll find a dinner spot to relive our exploits. More details to follow after the leader checks out the trail on March 16. Again, this is long, and at times steep and rugged trail so if you want to join us, keep up on your PT.
