Wild Basin is one of my favorite areas in RMNP.  We will be starting from the Winter Trailhead which adds extra mileage to our route.  Wild Basin Winter Trail Guide.

We will hike to Hidden Falls which is a well known ice climbing site in winter but only a trickle in the summer.  Hidden Falls is reached by following the horse trail near the Wild Basin Ranger Station and is often missed by hikers as there is no signage.  Hopefully we will observe some climbers on this spectacular ice wall.

We will then continue on to Copeland Falls, Calypso Cascades, and then Ouzel Falls.  Even though mostly frozen in winter, these falls are all very beautiful.

*This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents. We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping. Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive. We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership. To join our free mailing list, write Membership Services at or call them at (303) 279-3080.

Please have snowshoes and microspikes for this hike and know how to strap your snowshoes to your backpack.

Please have all 10 essentials and dress for changing weather.

This will be a hike of up to 10 miles.  Be prepared to be hiking for at least 8 hours at a moderate but steady pace.

I will email participants 1-2 days before with weather info. and any other necessary information.  If you do not receive an email, it is your responsibility to contact me.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
