The group will start at Bear Lake and follow the trail towards Bierstadt, before cutting off towards the Flattop Trail. We will continue past the Flattop Trail and beneath the "Banana Bowl" possibly stopping to snap a few photos of Notchtop. We will then make our way though the woods towards Two Rivers Lake, note often this section is tricky and involves breaking trail through deep snow. We will then walk across Two Rivers and make our way to Lake Helene. After checking out Lake Helene we may continue to Grace Falls. We will then go to an overlook of Odessa Gorge where we will be treated to the grandur of the gorge, Oddessa Lake and the Little Matterhorn.

Note that conditions on the lake can be brutal on a cool windy day so you will need something to cover your face and nose. I also recommend goggles, however, some folks may get by with a set of glasses.

Depending on the condition of the trail, it’s possible the first part of the trip could be done in microspikes. However I would like everyone to bring snowshoes also. If you choose to begin hike in microspikes, then you must have a way of attaching snowshoes to your pack.

Also remember layer for windy conditions, bring at least a liter of water and food or snacks for lunch.

Notes

We had a fun snowshoe trip. Trail to Banana Bowls packed and microspikes fine. Above needed snowshoes. Weather warm and clear in the morning and snowing in the afternoon. Virtually little to no wind.
