This is Day-1 of a 5-Day camping trip to hike five Colorado Wilderness Areas. Reservation for Sep 3-4 at Big Meadows Campground can be made at no earlier than Mar 3, 2019.

Each day is an exploratory hike.

Arrive Big Meadows Campground, 11 miles SE of South Fork, CO, check in and set up camp. After setting up camp, hike west from the Big Meadows Campground, around Big Meadows Reservoir, and into Weminuche Wilderness Area. Hike as far toward Archuleta Lake as desired, then return same way.  After the hike we will camp overnight

Weminuche Wilderness Area is about a half-million acres in size, the largest in Colorado. It contains the headwaters of both the Rio Brande and San Juan Rivers, cascading rivers, immense glacial valleys and windswept ridges of the 80-mile Continental Divide, which runs the length of the area, from Stoney Pass to Wolf Creek Pass.

John is attempting to hike all 37 wilderness Areas in Colorado. His goal for this hike is to bag Weminuche Wilderness Area.
