Details

This trip is the first field day for the 2019 Mountain Hiking School Students. Note the students will be split into two groups, reflected on the schedule as "MHS Field Day 1.1" and "MHS Field Day 1.2."

The trip will start at Arthur's Rock Trailhead.  Group 1.1 will proceed east on South Valley Loop to the Shoreline trail, then to junction with the Hogback Overlook trail.  Head south on the Hogback Overlook Trail (not marked).  Travel to the end of trail.

Return to the Shoreline Trail.  Look for the northernmost knob of the hogback just southeast of you. It should be about 0.3 mi (strait-line) from the junction of the Hogback Overlook and Shoreline trails.  Pick the easiest off-trail route to this knob at an elevation of about 5623’.  There is a small cliff-band around this knob; pick the easiest walking route up it via a weakness in the cliff.  Return to the Shoreline Trail, and head east on the trail, going down to the Horsetooth Reservoir shoreline.  Finally, return to the junction of the Hogback Overlook Trail & the Shoreline Trail and meet Group 2.

More details related to this trip will be discussed with students during the 4/2/19 Classroom session.
