*This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents. We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping. Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive. We welcome all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip regardless of age or Bobcats membership. If you would like to register for this trip, please send me a note with descriptions of your fitness level/regimen and similar distance hikes you have been on in the past year if I do not already know you.

I do not expect anyone to be a super athlete, I just need to know if you can handle the length and elevation gain.

This is a good hike to start getting in shape for summer backpacking and colorado trail segments as well as big elevation gain peaks.

Details

The Boulder Skyline 5 Peak Traverse is a very long, strenous, and beautiful hike in the foothills of Boulder.  The trek is between the base of Mt. Sanitas and the Mesa Trailhead near Eldorado Springs.   We will be doing a car shuttle.

Expect to be hiking for up to 12 hours.  6300 feet of elevation gain also means descending those feet.  This is a VERY strenous hike but also FUN!  This is a HIKE not a trail run.  The group will stay together at all times.  I have not yet decided which trailhead we will start at but am leaning towards Mesa as I would like to go up Shadow Canyon early in the day rather than go down it at the end of the day.

Here is a good blog post describing what the day may be like.  https://rootsrated.com/stories/tackling-the-five-peak-assault-in-boulder         The 5 major peaks that you will summit and their elevation are as follows:

Bear Peak-8,456ft       South Boulder Peak-8,543ft       Green Mountain-8,149ft      Flagstaff Mountain-7,030ft   Mt. Sanitas-6,835ft        Mileage: 16.4 miles     Vertical Gain: 6,300 vertical feet gain.
