2019 Alpine Scrambling Course, Basic Skills Session 2 - Snow
Location: Cameron Pass

Description of session activities and required gear provided through small instructional groups. For Basic Skills Session 2, students need ice ax, crampons fit to your boots at home (if you selected that option), helmet, climbing harness, 2 locking carabiners, a 60 cm sewn sling, a 120 sewn sling, 60 inches of 5 mm nylon accessory cord, adequate clothing for expected weather conditions, including rain gear, mountaineering boots, 10 essentials. Snowshoes or backcountry ski gear are likely to be needed for the approach - check with your small group instructor. Instructors should bring the same gear as students plus one or two 30 m ropes per instructional group and a few pieces of snow protection.

The Basic Skills Session is an all day field trip conducted in small groups. It consists of both reviews and new skills development:

* Mountain travel skills
* Hazard identification
* Route finding
* Risk management
* Soft snow climbing techniques
* Managing emergency situations
* Roped climbing practice
* Crampon use - optional
* Debrief

You must be registered for ASC to participate in the workshops, the Basic Skills Sessions, and students are given preference for Elective Scrambles. To register, see the registration announcement listed in the CMC classes calendar on 05/09/2019.
