THIS TRIP IS FOR NEW AND PROSPECTIVE CMC MEMBERS ONLY. We will answer new members' practical questions and talk about pace, clothing, gear, etc.  Bring your questions and concerns.

Whenever you have to cancel out of a trip, it is your responsibility to do that online.  I will see it.  Here's how:  Log in to>Members>My Membership>My trips> find this trip (all your upcoming trips are listed in date order) click "cancel."

IN ADDITION:   Please TEXT me if you have to cancel the night before or the morning of.  Emails will be lost in my inbox.

This is a lovely hike with aspen groves and spectacular views of South Park.

The goal is to get new members comfortable with the trip sign-up and trip-taking process. We will answer new members' practical questions and can talk as you wish about pace, clothing, gear, schools, etc.  I'll write you with a weather forecast the  day before. Do not assume bad weather means the trip is canceled.  We only cancel if the roads are treacherous. We just try to dress appropriately.

Please advise me of any medical conditions that might impact your hiking.

Please bring those of the  10 essentials  appropriate to a three-hour hike. Wear proper hiking boots, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water.  Traction devices, such as microspikes, probably will be necessary.  (We recommend you always carry them in your pack from late fall through early summer.)

Part of the trail is steep and gravel-slippery, so bring hiking poles if you use them.  If you have never used hiking poles, I have a few to loan, if you'd like to try them.

No jeans or cotton clothing.  We can talk more about all that on trip day.

No dogs, please.  Look for "Doggie Hikes" on the CMC calendar.

10/13/2019 Post trip note.

I changed this to Mt Falcon .  There was a consensus of the group to change it also.

Change based on recent cold and probably snow on the trail. The temp in Grant wast 16 degrees with a high in the low 30's.

Therefore the pass was probably much colder.

Only one of the members had been on this trail and it was some time ago. Therefore the experience was new to all of them.

This is a moderate B hike up to the castle.  8 miles and 1650 feet change.

I provided them with yellow cards for their 1st aid kits.  I also provided them with the Classifiation change form and directed them that they need one more Mod B hike to get a rating change.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
