Painted Mines is in Calhoun, CO which is about 1 1/4 hours away. This is an easy A viewing stroll with rolling hills. Please bring a bag for your boots as I was told that the trail is muddy. Also wear layers cause up top it does get windy. A camera is a must as the colors of the rocks and the formation are breathtaking.

The Paint Mines are named for their colorful clays that were collected by American Indians to make paint. Brightly colored bands, caused by oxidized iron compounds, are found in varying amounts throughout the many different layers of clay.
