Adventure Travel Leader Workshop I - Planning, Designing and Proposing your AT Trip

This 3-hour workshop is designed to help practicing and aspiring Adventure Travel trip Leaders develop new skills, or enhance the skills they already have. In this session, we focus on planning, designing and proposing an AT trip.

Future sessions will focus on:

II- Managing Logistics for your AT Trip (once the trip is approved/published)

III-Leadership Excellence on your AT Trip (once the trip is under way)

Refreshments will be served.


In this workshop, you will:

  • Understand what Adventure Travel is and how an Adventure Travel trip Leader adds value to a travel experience
  • Discover the requirements and benefits of being an AT Leader
  • Learn how to select a trip destination, research the details of the trip and propose your idea to CMC’s Adventure Travel Committee (ATC)
  • Understand how to work effectively with the Committee, your ATC liaison and other CMC staff members
  • Understand how to produce some of the deliverables that describe your proposed trip, such as itinerary, budget and proposal, and participant information
  • See the online tools that are available to guide you through the process
  • Discuss the best ways to acquire visas, permits and other necessary documentation
  • Learn how to select and hire outfitters
  • Consider strategies for screening and selectng participants for your trip
  • Understand what CMC marketing channels are available to you
  • Determine the best ways to get the word out about your trip
  • Consider some high-level strategies for leading your AT trip

  2. Adventure Travel  terms and concepts
  3. Applying to be an AT Trip Leader
  4. Your Dream Trip: drivers for selection
  5. The phases of an AT trip: Proposal, Pre-Trip, Trip and Post-Trip
  6. The Proposal Phase: In which the Leader designs the trip and completes a number of important documents that describe the parameters of the trip
  7. Participant screening and selection factors
  8. Marketing your AT trip
  9. Leadership fundamentals (this topic is covered more completely in a separate Workshop)
