Details

This all off trail hike is on the west side of the northern Rampart Range west of Sedalia and exactly across the S Platte River from CMC favorite Long Scraggy Peak.  The Noodle Heads are 2 large granite outcrops (resembling heads from a distance) in a north south allignment best seen from the scenic overlook on Hwy-126 between Buffalo Creek and Deckers (and of course from the Long Scraggy summit).  We begin on the S Platte River near Osprey Campground and ascend (getting steeper as we go) directly up to a saddle south of the north most head, then progress south along the ridge past the other head.  The summits are attainable only to rock climbers so we view from the bases.  From the south most head we follow ridges down eventually intercepting our ascent route near the river.  There is a lot of steep terrain on both ascent and descent but with careful route finding we should keep the slope under 25 degrees most of the time.  This hike is short and sweet but don't be fooled by the "casual" pace - I expect a difficult (but fun) tour de heads.  The entire route is exploratory for the leader.
