Climb this classic couloir in RMNP. Climb 45 degree snow and fourth class rock above Emerald Lake.

Start at Bear Lake Trailhead. Hike past Nymph and Dream Lakes and around Emerald Lake to the base of the climb. Ascend the Dragon’s Tail Couloir. Continue from the top of the couloir to the summit of Flattop. Traverse south along the ridge to the summits of Hallet and Otis Peaks. Descend to Andrews Pass and down Andrews Glacier to Andrews Tarn. Hike from the tarn down through The Gash and past The Loch and Alberta Falls. Continue past the Glacier Gorge Trailhead and return to the Bear Lake Trailhead.

Bring ice axe, crampons, helmet, and harness. 




This is couloir climb for current Alpine Climbing School students that have completed the Advanced Snow course.

We will meet at the Park n Ride (TBD) at 2am to leave from the trailhead at 4am.
