This is an elective trip for the 2019 Fort Collins Alpine Scrambling Course (ASC).  Non-students are welcome but ASC students will be given sign-up preference.  The trip will be led be Erin Bohler (ASC Instructor) and Steve Dielman (Asst. Instructor and Trip Leader).

We will start at the American Lakes TH near Cameron Pass and end at the Lake Agnes TH. A short shuttle is required.  We will take the American Lakes trail and ascend the Michigan River Drainage, passing by the Michigan Lakes and Snow Lake. From Snow Lake we will ascend the east ridge of Static Peak, an exposed narrow ridge involving Class 3/3+ scrambling. The Peak is at 12,560' and sports some dramatic drop-offs. We will then proceed over talus to the south, descending to a saddle before climbing Mount Richthofen at 12,940'. We will next descend a short rocky gulley (Class 3+) to Richthofen's west ridge followed by a longer steep scree slope to the saddle with Mt. Mahler. From there, we turn north and descend steep scree, talus and alpine meadow toward Lake Agnes. The trip ends at the Lake Agnes TH, where we will have a car waiting. This trip is not very long but it is quite strenuous and requires good fitness and some concentration on the knife edge to Static Peak.  This is a very rewarding and spectacular alpine trip. Leaders will bring a short rope and other safety gear in case of unforeseen difficulties. Must register directly with Steve Dielman via email.
