Here is the peak on

Garfield, CO

The trailhead for this BiCentennial peak is right at the snowmobile rental shop on Hwy 50 which is labeled on maps as Garfield, CO. The signs on the road now call it Monarch. This rental shop is just west of that big Monarch Lodge building but on the opposite (north) side of the highway. If coming from the east, it is approximately 13 miles west of Poncha Springs, the junction of Highways 50 & 285. If coming from the west, it's about 3.5 miles east, down the pass, from Monarch Ski Area. Just to the left (west) of the rental shop, is FS230.

For folks in Colorado Springs lets carpool. We will meet in the Safeway parking lot at 3:00am. 3275 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80904

The store doesn't open until 6:00am so no potty here.

The start time from the trailhead is approximately 5am.

This is a snow climb! You will need snowshoes for the approach/return, and crampons and ice axe for the coulior. All participants will need to bring a beacon, probe, and shovel.

We had a total of seven of us do the snow climb up THE GRAND COULOIR. What a fantastic couloir. After climbing Aetna, we traversed over to the other Bi-Centennial peak...Mt. Taylor. The stats were 9.3 miles, 4,600 verts, and 9 hours. Great day with old and news friends!

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
