Congrats on starting your journey as a CMC Trip Leader!  At this training you'll learn and practice the follow Trip Leader roles:



Decision-maker




  • Plan the trip goals, route, and logistics.

  • Make appropriate decisions for changing situations.

  • Use your experience to develop good judgment.

  • Harness the strengths and knowledge of your group members to solve problems.

  • Make focused decisions even when under stress



Risk Manager 




  • Follow the CMC club-wide policies and your own group’s procedures.

  • Be competent in technical skills needed for the trip, including first aid.

  • Have an emergency plan.



Group Facilitator 




  • Communicate effectively with participants before during and after the trip.

  • See the possibilities in any situation and find creative ways to move the group forward.

  • Turn challenging situations into opportunities.

  • Use humor to keep things in perspective. o Role-model and teach outdoor skills.



Administrative Tasks and Follow-Through




  • Post trip description.

  • Complete required trip forms.

  • Follow-up after an emergency.



Ambassador for the CMC Cause




  • Be able to describe the mission and basic programs of the CMC.

  • Present a positive perspective of the CMC.

  • Respond constructively to feedback or criticism about the organization.

  • Note taking materials
  • Laptop computer (don't have a laptop? no worries, we can share)
  • Clothing and equipment you'd typically bring on a day hike
  • H20, Snacks

Format will include classroom and field sessions.  Be prepared for rain or shine.

The New Trip Leader Training was a success with Doug Maiwurm and Keegan Young in attendance from the Golden Office.  We had about eght (8) new potential leaders and four (4) current leaders in attendance.  All was well and no injuries on the training hike.
