Details

Horseshoe mountain at approximately 13,800 feet is one of the hundred highest in Colorado. The trail starts a short distance beyond the Leavick mill. The road to the mill will for sure be open. We will park there or travel further on the road if open.

The trail to Horseshoe ascends mining roads for the most part to the saddle and then climbs the ridge 800 feet to the summit. The Horseshoe bowl will be familiar to those who have been to Mount Sherman. It is massive.

After the 4 mile summit of Horseshoe, we retrace our steps, climb over Peerless and continue on to Sheridan at 13,748 feet. Following our summit of Sheridan, we will descend the ridge and intersect the trail to Sherman. We will descend that trail to our start point.

This is a long hike with lots of ascent and descent. We will make the commitment to Sheridan only after we summit Peerless and assess the weather and stamina of the team.

Please pack you ten essentials, spring layers and spikes. Bring your snowshoes and maybe we will leave them in the car. I was in the bowl last weekend and there is still quite a lot of snow. I will update equipment and weather a couple of days prior to hike
