From the parking area on Stapleton Drive (I-70 Chief Hosa exit) we descend the west end of Beaver Brook Trail to the bottom of the canyon.  Continuing east toward Golden we hike out of the canyon to the trail high point (and great lookout on Clear Creek Canyon to the north) at 7776'.  We return back down into the canyon and finish by acending the Chavez trail back up to Stapleton Drive.  This hike is down-up-down-up and is the best of Beaver Brook in my opinion.  There are big vegetation changes as we ping pong between north and south facing slopes and now, due to busy volunteers (a little by CMC),  the once washed out bridges have been rebuilt making things easier.  This is a tough hike but we go at a slow pace to compensate.

This part of Beaver Brook Trail was build 100 years ago much by members of the 4 year old Colorado Mountain Club.  According to Robert Ormes 2nd Edition "Guide to the Colorado Mountains", CMC members hiked into the area up Beaver Brook Creek from where the train let them off in Clear Creek Canyon. One wonders if there is remains of an old trail there now.

See note below (especially new members)

Notes

Drivers are hard to come by and we reimburse them for some expense.  The formula for this trip is 25 miles X 30 cents/mile divided by 4 people/car = $2 to the driver from each person in the car.

Check your E-mail inbox 1-2 days before the trip for a message from the leader about expected weather, special gear to bring, etc.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
