Details

This is an Alpine Scrambling Course field trip. ASC students and instructors only sign up here. All others should sign up with 'Couloir Climb Cameron Pass, Non-ASC member Sign-up'

We will choose one of several possible routes:
Mahler Couloirs: https://frontrangeskimo.com/mount-mahler
or one of several
Nokhu Couloirs: https://frontrangeskimo.com/nokhu-crags
Map: Trails Illustrated #200
We may change the date depending on snowpack conditions and/or road openings.

Maximum slope angles of the couloirs are in the 40 to 45 degree range. Runouts vary, depending on the route. Experienced snow climbers will be confident enough to ascend and descend these couloirs without the added security of a rope. This climb will include students of the Alpine Scrambling Course. So we plan to provide roped climbing with snow and rock anchors as protection for at least some in the group, particularly for the descent. Most of the couloirs in this group require descending the ascent route.

Recommended gear:
Mountaineering boots
Gaiters
Ice ax
Crampons
Helmet
Climbing harness
2 locking carabiners
60 cm sewn sling
120 cm sewn sling
Bring snow pickets if you have them.
Snowshoes or backcountry skis may be required for the approach.

Notes

Non-ASC members should sign up on the trip listed as 'Couloir Climb Cameron Pass, Non-ASC Members Sign-up'.
