Details

Please join us at Eldorado State Park, south of Boulder to gawk at the rock climbers and search for soaring Golden Eagles. You might consider bringing binoculars for a better look. The park is also popular with hikers, fisher people and mountain bikers (we saw NO bikers on scout hike!). We will start on the flat Fowler Trail to get a close-up look at the climbers and enjoy views of the mouth of the canyon looking out onto the valley. Then the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail will take us approximately 1.5 miles to the ruins of the historic Crag's Hotel. It was built in 1908 and accessed via an inclined railway. Fire destroyed it in 1913. The views of South Boulder Creek are spectacular from the trail. We'll then hike an additional .2 miles to the Continental Divide Overlook. Elevation gain is 800 feet.

Notes

Please bring clothing for changing weather, plenty of water and snacks/lunch. Temps are warming up and part of trail is exposed so please bring hat and sunscreen. An optional after-hike social stop will be in Golden.
