Johnny Park road runs along the north rim of the 1500' deep St Vrain North Fork Canyon east of Allenspark.  The road is open to 4WD in the summer but gated for non motorized recreation in winter.  It would be great for snowshoe if conditions warrant but its low 8000' elevation makes that activity hit and miss.  We hike this up and down back country road  for three miles, then go off road for a rugged 2+ miles on a promontory containing several sub peaks high above the river to N Sheep Mtn.   The leader has visited the entry point and viewed the promontory from a distance but the hike as described is exploratory.   I expect progress along the promontory to be slow but interesting.  There could be exposure and we might not summit all the sub-peaks.  It is because of this off trail part that I give the trip a difficult rating.

The St Vrain North Fork is becomming my favorite destination with many good hiking opportunities, but undervisited by CMC.  I tried this trip in January but a mountain storm prompted us to hike elsewhere. In March the retry was frustrated by snow and mud on the access road.  So this is try #3.
