This is an elective scramble trip for the Fort Collins Alpine Scrambling Course (ASC) students, so they will be given first priority. Others will be put on a wait list and notified on July 16th if there is an opening.

The trip leader will be camping in the Frisco / Breckenridge area the evening of July 20th. Participants will notify the leader if they would also like to camp or if they want to meet up on July 21st. The leader will work with those participants to set up a meeting time and place, it won't be 12 am :-)

I have reserved a campsite in "Prospector" (it is on the road on the south side of Dillian Reservior). Rules say we can only have two tents, IF someone in our group has a couple of larger tents we can get by, however, we may need to get another campsite if no one has a larger tent (I only have backpacking tents)

Ride Share (see below), note you may also need to split the cost of a campsite.

It is a long drive (300 miles) so my normal ride share of $0.10/mile per person might be a bit high ($30 person). Just gas (for my car) is about $0.165/mile, including things that wear out is about $0.33/mile .... why don't we assume all participants in a car (inlcuding the driver) split 0.25/mile with a max of $30.

Driver and one passenger - $30 per person (since I said we max at $30)

Driver and two passengers - $25 per person

Driver and three passengers - $19 per person

Driver and four passengers - $15 per person

The group will start at the North McCullough Gulch Trailhead and climb the east ridge of Pacific Peak and decend the south-east slope. The trip is decribed (as a Classic) in Gerry Roach's "Colorado's Thirteeners, from HIkes to Climbs" in in The Colorado Mountain Club Guidebook "Colorado Scrambles, Climbs Beyond the Beaten Path". The trip leaders will NOT be scouting the trip, so expect an "adventure". The trip will include bushwacking, a mile of jolly scrambling (Gerry's words), a bit of knife edge, and a possible snow decent. At best the route will include quite a bit of Class 2+ scrambling and depending on our route may also include lots of Class 3 scrambling, so please be forwarned. I will provide a more detailed description to participants before the trip.

Recommended gear:

Light mountaineering boots, crampons

Seat harness/carabiners (at least one locking and 1-2 non-locking)

Ice ax, gaiters

Daypack with lunch, snacks, water or drink (at least 2 liters)

Mountain hiking clothing appropriate for the season, altitude, weather. Include rain gear.

Gloves, hat, headlamp
