Details

This is Day 1 of a three day backpack from Goose Creek Trailhead on Goose Creek Trail to Refrigerator Gulch, a remote, rugged area where Lost Creek's comings and goings under boulders, through canyons, and out of massive caves are visibile from directly off the trail. This strenuous hike takes us deep into the backcountry where the mysteries of the Lost Creek's path are ready for exploration.

Day 1, We depart Goose Creek Trail Head, cross two bridges and head north on Goose Creek Trail. The trail meanders on the north side of Goose Creek before climbing steadily to the junction with the Shaft House ruins at the 4 mile point. Goose Creek Trail then climbs steadily away from the historic buildings through a gorgeous aspen grove (4.8 mile point, at 9,000 ft.), and continues to Reservoir Gulch at the 5.5 mile point, with a creek and camping sites. Here we may camp for two nights, or continue on to Refrigerator Gulch.

Day 2, we will either leave our camp at Reservoir Gulch and dayhike to Refrigerator Gulch, or if we continued on to Refrigerator Gulch, return part way back to the trailhead. A 600' descent into Refrigerator Gulch requires a first-thing climb back out on our way back to Goose Creek trailhead.

Day 3. We break camp and return to our car at Goose Creek Trailhead.

Notes
