I-70 West Bound Exit 216, right before the Eisenhower tunnel.  DO NOT continue to the left under I-70 on toward Loveland Pass or the Loveland Ski Area.  INSTEAD, make a sharp right turn and contine back east on the dirt access road on the North side of I-70.  Drive to the end and park on the side of the road.

Details

We will hike toward a steep-sided saddle between Mt. Bethel and The Citadel, which separates us from Herman Lake.  View the Continental Divide atop the saddle, then decend on a steep, slippery trail toward Herman Lake.  We are hoping the big snow year and crazy spring weather will prolong the wildflower season because there are huge flower meadows right under Pettingell Peak.  Eat lunch among the flowers or near the lake and then return.

Portions of this trail are EXPLORATORY for the trip leaders, so stats are approximate.

Notes

This is a Bobcat Trip. *The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips for our mostly age 50+ constituents.

We don’t have dues or elections and we invite all CMC members to sign up for any Bobcats trip.

We send out a short weekly email, usually on Thursdays, with links to available roster spots.  There is one monthly email with all the coming month’s trips, sent out just after those trips are activated.

You can search the CMC Calendar for Bobcat trips any time by using an asterisk ( * )  in the “Keyword Search” box.
