Come and enjoy Eldorado State Park, south of Boulder, that is very popular with rock climbers, hikers, and mountain bikers. We will hike the beginning of the Fowler Trail (easy walk along the side of the canyon wall) to see the rock climbers and get some great views of the mouth of the valley and the "springs" below. Bring your binoculars for closeup views of the climbers.

We will then hike the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail approximately 1.5 miles. Footing is rocky, with steep dropoffs. We will have spectacular views of the canyon and eastern plains.  We will see the ruins of the old hotel that burned down during an era when Eldorado Springs was known as the "Coney Island of the West".  The hotel, built in 1908 and originally accessed via an inclined railway, burned down in 1913.  The additional loop at the top is currently closed due to golden eagle nesting.

Plan for our changing Colorado weather by dressing in layers.  Include your 10 essentials with plenty of water and food for the day.  It may be windy, and very sunny so remember your hat and sunscreen.  Anyone having an annual State Parks Pass please offer to drive. Plan for an entire day.

The leader will send an email to all participants the day before the hike with any last minute changes.  Contact the leader if you are scheduled to hike and do not receive the email by early Tuesday evening.  Also notify the leader of any pertinent medical conditions.
