What level avy training have you completed, and when was it?

- Do you own (and are comfortable using), a beacon, shovel, and probe?

- Have you been on any other CMC ski trips?

- Roughly how often do you go backcountry skiiing (or snowboarding)?

Trip leader: Trey Laurence,

Coleader: Kahle Toothill,

This is a ski of the NE couloir, not the easy north bowl of Sundance. After parking on Trail Ridge Road, the approach to the drop in point is about 1/3 of a mile. We will skin or hike this section. We will be dropping into our objective from the top. The entrance is about 45 degrees, with most of the run being around 40 degrees. We will then take off skis, put on crampons and climb out a different, but easier, face. The climb out is only about 30 degrees.

This is a physically easy trip, but the skiing is steep, so you must be comfortable skiing steeper lines. However, it is a fairly wide gully, so it's not a bad intro to steeper spring lines.

You don't need to be an experienced snow climber, but you need to know how to use an ice axe and crampons.

Required Gear: Skis or splitboard, skins (reccommended for the approach), poles, ice axe, crampons, helmet, beacon, shovel, probe, pack with ski/splitboard carry and appropriate clothing.

Additional details on the NE couloirs can be found in "Backcountry Skiing and Ski Mountaineering in RMNP" by Mark Kelley, p.144 and The Colorado Mountain Club Guidebook: Colorado Snow Climbs, p.169 (in this book they ascend a different couloir than we will).

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
