Location

The destinatioin of this hike was changed to Witter Peak in the James Peak Wilderness because the Peru Creek Road had not opened up for the summer season yet.  The Dillon Ranger Destrict Office told me they experienced much avalanche damage and downed power lines which hadn't been fixed yet.

We'll meet at 6:00 AM on Thursday 7/25/19 at the Wooly Mammoth Park and Ride, Section BB for a no later than 6:15 AM departure.  Driving Distance is 125 miles round trip.

The trailhead is along the Peru Creek Road  about1.7 miles off of the Montezuma Road.  The Peru Creek Road is approximately 4.5 miles from the Keystone Ski Area.

Per a trip description I have from a Dave Muller writeup, "This is a moderately steep hike to a ridge and a peak overlooking three lovely mountain valleys.  The off trail portion of the hike is above timberline and proceeds easily to a grassy ridge and a summit that can be seen to the north throughout the second half of the hike."

The round trip hikng distance is 9 miles with 2875 feet of elevation gain.

The hiking pace will accommodate all hikers.
