Location

We will park at the Wild Basin Fee Station and the trailhead to Sandbeach Lake is off of the parking lot.  The starting elevation is 8,400 feet and climb to 10,283.  The trail will climb steadily all the way to the lake.  Starting out we will climb up a lateral moraine (Copeland Moraine) and follow it for the first mile.  We then will continue on a mostly forested trail with enough good views of Mt Meeker and the high peaks of the park to keep the hike interesting.  On the way to the lake we will initially follow Campers Creek after the moraine and then drop into Hunters Creek.  The trail will then enter the forest again climbing up to reach Sandbeach Lake.  The lake as you can guess is named for its sandy beach like shoreline.

Meet at 6:15 with a 6:30 departure at the CoorsTEX parking lot just east of CMC.  We will drive Hwy 93 to Boulder than Hwy 36 for 17 miles to Lyons where we will turn left onto Hwy 7and follow it for 21 miles towards Allens Park.  At County Rd 84 there will be a large sign pointing towards Wild Basin.  Turn at the sign and proceed .4 miles then veer slightly to the right on to County Rd 115.  The trailhead is at the entrance station on your right.  The Sandbeach Trailhead is located in the Wild Basin area of RMNP.

If everyone is up to it we can stop at Oskar Blues Grill in Lyons for refreshments.

If you have a National Parks Pass please bring it.

Milage is 120 miles X .30 = $36 each car pool will reimburse the driver.

Remember to bring your ten essentials, and rain gear.  I will provide weather information as we get closer to the date.  If you have any medical conditions that could impact the trip please contact me prior to the trip.
