Follow the Herman Gulch TH for abou 2.5 miles.

At the junction, right before the Herman Lake,

leave the trail, and head up directly north to a

steep grassy slope where will gear up. We will continue

on this grassy slope, and continue and stay on the ridge (class 3),

until we reach Pettingel Peak. Depending upon time, desire, weather we may descend to the lake or scramble back via ridge.
