This hike begins at the Roaring Creek Trailhead (7750 elev.), 40.5 miles from Ted's Place up the Poudre Canyon (1.5 mi. west of Fish Hatchery). The hike begins up the SE slope through Ponderosa pine, sagebrush, junipers, cedar and Douglas fir. The first mile is quite steep, but we will be rewarded with outstanding views of the Poudre Canyon and surrounding peaks. We will enjoy the beauty of waterfalls, wildflowers, aspen and the tranquility of the forest and trout ponds once we reach the mellow Roaring Creek Valley. Our journey through this aspen, pine and fir forest may also reward us with sightings of bighorn sheep and/or moose. We will hike between 6 and 8 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of between 1500 and 1800' , depending upon the group's preferences. At the 5 mile mark, we would meet FR 517 (a 4WD road), but we may not wish to venture this far through the meadows. We will enjoy a lunch around these peaceful ponds before heading back the way we came. Anita Wright and Don Carpenter -- Leaders

We will meet at Ted's Place at 7:30 am to arrange carpools, with a suggested ride share of $5.
