Location

We will meet, form carpools, and depart from the Golden - Morrison area on Friday, July 26, 2019, at or around 4:00 PM. We will proceed to the Missouri Gulch Trailhead for a carcamping experience. For those unable to travel on Friday, you are welcome to register for the trip and arrive at the Missouri Gulch Trailhead on Saturday, July 27th by 5:15 AM.

From Leadville CO: Drive 20 miles south and turn right (WB) onto Chaffee County Road 390. From Buena Vista: Drive 14.5 miles north on US - 24 and turn WB (left) onto Chaffee County Road 390. On WB Chaffee County Road 390, drive 7.5 miles on a well graded dirt road - suitable for all passenger vehicles - to a sign for the Missouri Gulch TH. Turn into any of the parking spaces at the historical Vicksburg CO townsite.

NOTE: EXPLORATORY HIKE DISCLAIMER: I have ascended the Missouri Gulch to the summit of Missouri Mountain last summer. I have not ascended either Mount Belford or Mount Oxford. I have researched the trip through www.14ers.com and Dawson's Guide to Colorado 14ers. I am aware of the risks and challenges of the trip. As a D-rated trip leader, I believe the risks and challenges are well within my knowledge, skills and abilities. Feel free to call and discuss.

Bring the Ten Essentials for maximum protection and safety from potential late afternoon rainfall. High wind conditions are frequently encountered above tree line. Neither crampons, yaktraxs or microspikes are required as the trail reports indicate an absence of snow and ice. I recommend bringing trekking ploes for ease on the ascent, descent and across the high, exposed mountain ridges.
