You are in for a treat on July 31, 2019 as this hike to Lake Isabelle in the Indian Peaks Wilderness provides spectacular scenery. Wildflowers, vistas, alpine lakes and rushing water are guaranteed. Moose sighting will hopefully be a special extra. This is a Moderate A, 6 miles RT, 600 feet elevation gain. We will park in the Niwot Picnic Area and start at the Niwot Cutoff TH. We will hike to the Pawnee Pass Trail, past Long Lake and then start up the sometimes rocky trail to Lake Isabelle. The Craggy Indian Peaks will come into view. We will make a quick trek a very short distance up the Pawnee Pass Trail from the lake for another lovely view of the area and then settle on the rocks next to the top of the cascades waterfall on Isabelle's south side for lunch. Meet at 6:45am in east parking lot across street from CMC, Golden (SW corner). CMC bathrooms open at 6:45am. EACH CAR WILL NEED A FEDERAL SENIOR PASS FOR FREE ENTRY ($12 PER CAR IF NO PASS). PLEASE BRING PASS IF YOU HAVE ONE. Driving directions to TH will be given at meeting place. Driving distance is 96 miles so please bring cash for drivers.
FYI - As of 7/22/2019 Long Lake and Niwot parking are still closed due to snow/mud. We might have to park at the day use parking near the campground and walk up the road. This could add an extra mile to the trip.
