This is an Adventure Travel pre-trip hike, specifically for participants of an upcoming AT trip. The pace will be moderate on a well marked/traveled trail. The duration and distance are dependent on the group's condition and weather. Bring the ten essentials, some food in case we lunch at a break, and water.

This outing will provide a hike to Herman Lake (Map). This hike provides an opportunity to train for the upcoming AT trip. And, if we make it to Herman Lake there will be panoramic views in the canyon and of the lake. Depending on the pace and weather we may continue to the Continental Divide Trail or the ridge that has views of Mt. Holy Cross.

Meet at Woolly Mammoth Parking Lot (Maps) section AA at 8am. We will organize carpooling here, leaving no later than 8:10.  Alternatively, you can meet us at the Watrous Gulch Trailhead at 9am.

Directions to the Watrous Gulch Trailhead: From Denver take I-70 West past Georgetown to exit 218. At the stop sign turn right (sharp turn doubling back to the East) and follow the gravel road to the parking lot. (Map)

Dogs are not permitted on this hike.  Be prepared for sun as there is little shade on this hike. Participants should also have adequate footwear and clothing, including rain gear.

Port-a-potty toilets are available at the trail head. We'll stop at the Georgetown Visitor Center on the way up for a brief stop.
